Dental implants

Dental implants are the best method to replace lost teeth, it is also the most permanent way and suitable for most adults.

A solution that lasts a lifetime

Unlike other types of tooth replacement methods, such as dentures, a dental implant becomes part of the jawbone. The artificial tooth both looks and feels like a real tooth. We are specialists in dental implants and use products from the manufacturers Straumann and Neoss, two reputable companies. In this way, we ensure that you get the best solution that lasts a lifetime.

How a dental implant works

Already in the 50s, the Swedish professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark discovered that the metal titanium has biocompatible properties, which means that it has the ability to grow together with organic tissues. This process is called osseointegration and is the basis of the methodology around dental implants. The first dental implant was inserted in the 60s and lasted the patient's whole life.

A dental implant consists of either a pin or a metal screw that is attached to the jawbone by the dentist drilling a hole. A healing process then begins as the screw grows together with the bone tissue in the jawbone. When the implant is firmly anchored, it works just like a natural tooth root. An artificial tooth is then attached to the screw, manufactured and shaped to fit in with the surrounding teeth. How long the whole process takes can vary, but it often takes 3-6 months until the new tooth is in place.

Just like a real tooth

In the past, it was not unusual, even among relatively young people, to be missing one or more teeth, and there were many older people who did not have any teeth left at all. However, dental health in Sweden has improved so much in the last 50-60 years that toothlessness is seen by most people as merely a cosmetic problem.

Using removable prostheses can be a solution, but it means constant worry about keeping them in place. In addition, they do not feel completely natural and do not help the jawbone to stay in shape, as no chewing force is transmitted.

A dental implant is in every essential sense a real tooth. It feels like a tooth and it works like a tooth by sitting securely in the mouth and directing the chewing force down to the jawbone so that it does not wither away. Therefore, dental implants are the solution we recommend to all of our patients who want to replace one or more lost teeth.
